accessibility
Last updated 28 July 2026
We want everyone to be able to read this site and get on our list. Below is an honest account of what works, what doesn't yet, and how to tell us if you hit a wall.
what we've done
- Every image has a text description, so screen readers can describe the photos, flyers and logos.
- The whole site works by keyboard. You can tab through every link, the menu and the signup form, and there's a visible outline showing where you are.
- Motion can be switched off. If your device is set to reduce motion, the animations stop — the drifting sun, the bobbing mascots, the scrolling text and the fade-ins all hold still.
- Text is real text. Apart from the two flyers and the main logo, nothing is a picture of words, so you can zoom, select and translate it.
- Proper page structure — real headings in order, real landmarks — so screen reader users can jump between sections.
- The signup form has a label and announces errors and confirmations out loud rather than only showing them.
- It reflows. Zoom to 200% or use a narrow window and nothing is lost or cut off.
where it falls short
Being straight with you rather than claiming a clean bill of health:
- The big headline is an image. It has a text description, but it won't scale with your browser's text-size setting the way real text would.
- The flyers contain text inside the picture. The event date, venue and line-up on each poster are written out next to it, so you're not missing information — but the poster itself can't be read by a screen reader.
- Contrast. The site uses dark red and cream on an orange background in places. Some of those pairings sit below the WCAG AA threshold. Large display type is the worst offender; body text and links are fine.
- Photographs are described briefly. Alt text says what the photo is of, not who's in it or every detail.
- The signup form depends on JavaScript. If it's disabled, there's a direct link to our newsletter page instead.
where we stand
We're aiming at WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We meet most of it and we're honest that the contrast on some large display type doesn't get there. This site hasn't had a formal audit — it's been checked by hand, not certified.
tell us if something doesn't work
If you can't read something, can't reach something, or the site fights you in any way, email management@totomatoto.com. Tell us what happened and what you were using — browser, phone, screen reader, whatever you know. We'll reply within a week.
If you need any information from this site in another format, ask and we'll send it to you directly.
at our events
This page is about the website. Venues vary, and some of the spaces we use are older buildings. If you have access needs for an event — step-free entry, seating, a quieter area, bringing a companion — email us before you come and we'll tell you honestly what the venue can and can't do, and do what we can to make it work.
